Gymnast, labourer, mountain climber, alpine guide and ski instructor, explorer, journalist, photographer and writer. Recipient of the Gold Medal for Civil Valour and Knight of the Italian Republic, Officer of the French Legion of Honour, honoris causa degree in environmental science, Gold Piolet for his career.

GASTON RÉBUFFAT

Gaston Rébuffat (1921-1985) is one of the most important French mountain climbers of the twentieth century. He became an alpine guide in 1942 and accomplished several first ascensions of the Mont Blanc range, often with Lionel Terray, but also spent time with many of the other great mountain climbers of that generation.
