ALPINE FILMAKING
The western Alps have been the set where cinema at high altitudes took its first steps, a few years after the first projections of the Lumière brothers in Paris in 1895. The first images of a climb on the Swiss side of the Matterhorn took place in 1901 by an unidentified camera operator, the godfather of a long series of film clips of that legendary mountain. On Mont Blanc the first film footage was taken in 1902 by an English operator, and in 1906 a climb by Vallot was captured.
