Since the second half of the eighteen hundreds, photographers began documenting life and tourism in the valleys as well as climbs to the main Alpine summits, heavy camera equipment in tow. Since then, much has changed; the evolution of techniques and equipment has been enormous for both climbing and photography. From the fragile glass plates of pioneers, to film and slides, to the advent of digital photography which has resulted in a dramatic increase in the images produced.
