CINEMA AND THE WESTERN ALPS

The three-year Interreg Alcotra “iAlp. Musei alpini interattivi” European project has provided some more in-depth details into its collections. An example is the cinema exhibit of the western Alps, a research project that concentrates on the section of mountain that goes from the Maritime Alps to Mount Rosa: the area of study is limited in part due to geographical limits and also due to the fact that only the material in the existing collections of the two museums is present, in particular in the Cineteca Storica of the Mountainmuseum.
Mountain cinema is studied for its diversity and complexity. The first documentary shots preceded subject-based films. Subsequently, cinema often conversed with the authors and protagonists of documents, contributing to the codification and popularization of alpine images.
