SKI LIFTS
Ski lifts emerged in the mountains at the beginning of the twentieth century. They were built thanks to public and private investments. They facilitated access to higher altitudes for the many novice alpine buffs, transforming alpine grazing fields into recreation areas. At its inauguration in 1955, the cable car of the Aiguille du midi in Chamonix, which rises to 3842 metres above sea level, was the highest in the world.
