WINTER PLEASURES

SKIING

Originally from the Nordic countries, skiing emerged in the Alps only in the nineteenth century and transformed mountain communities thanks to the arrival of a new economic winter activity.

WINTER SPORTS

Winter tourism first appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century. Along with summer, the Alps conquered a second season for tourism activities.

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES:
FROM CHAMONIX IN 1924 TO TURIN IN 2006

The Olympic Games were inherited from antiquity and re-invented by Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin in 1896, initially only in the summer version.
